Where does natural gas come from:

Natural gas composition In BD - Haripur: The rig could not reach the oil level - How do we get natural gas

While digging well No. 9 of Haripur gas field in Sylhet, Bapex's excavator (rig) could not reach the oil level (2072-2094 m or 6,795 - 6,080 depth). As a result, it has been decided to do a drill stem test (DST) as a process of extracting gas from the four layers identified above, excluding that layer.
Drill stem test is the process of testing the pressure, permeability, and productivity of a geological structure during good drilling. [natural gas definition]

Authorities had hoped to get oil from well No. 9 in the country's oldest and most historic gas field. Geologists have also agreed. They said that the location of oil has been proved in some levels of gas fields like Haripur, Kailastila, etc. Oil has been found there before. So the hope of getting oil from the Haripur No. 9 well was not unreasonable.

The Haripur gas field is being managed by Sylhet Gas Fields Limited (SGFL), one of Petrobangla's subsidiaries. Bapex, another company under Petrobangla, started excavating the new well on October 2 as their contractor. The location, depth, etc. of well No. 9 are determined on the basis of the three-dimensional seismic survey conducted by Bapex.[natural gas formed]

According to SGFL sources, oil was expected to be found in the well based on the results of the seismic survey. The well was to be dug at 2,100 meters or 6,890
Feet deep. But 2025 meters or 6 thousand 744
After digging up to a foot, the drilling pipe got stuck which could not be released in any conventional way. This may have been due to geological complexity and errors in excavation management.

According to the source, in order to determine what to do in this situation, all the parties including the concerned consultants and experts met in a meeting on December 16 and discussed the overall issue, and decided that the drilling pipe would be cut and cemented. That means the excavation of the well will be completed there. After that, gas will be extracted by DST at 4 levels identified within 2025 meters or 6,844 feet. [natural gas timeline]

Haripur was the first gas field in the country discovered in 1955. In 1970, 4 million cubic feet of gas was supplied daily from well No. 1 of the field to Chhatak Cement Factory. It is also the first use of gas in the industry in this country. He was the beginning of a new era. Then in 1971, another well in the area started supplying gas to the Fenchuganj Fertilizer Factory through a 30-mile-long and 6-foot-diameter pipeline. Until the independence of Bangladesh, a total of 6 wells were drilled in the Haripur gas field. However, during the victory in the war of liberation in December 1971, two wells were in operation.

Another reason why the Haripur gas field is so historic is that it is the first blow-out in this case. Again, this is the first and only oil field in the country.
After independence, well number 7 was drilled in the Haripur gas field in 1978. Oil was found in well No. 6 on December 23 of that year.
After extracting a total of 560,069 barrels of oil in about 6 years, on July 14, 1994, when the oil pressure (wellhead pressure) in the well dropped to almost zero, the flow of oil stopped.[gas definition]

According to experts, underground oil contains a waxy substance (wax). During oil extraction, the wax accumulates on the pipes of the well so that the flow of oil is interrupted. So the wax has to be cleaned regularly to keep the oil flowing in the well. It was not done in Haripur well no. That is why the wellhead pressure decreases and the flow of oil stops.

Well No. 6 was drilled in the field in 1989. There was a possibility of getting oil in that well too. But gas is available. Bapex then conducted a three-dimensional seismic survey in the area. Well, 9 is now being dug on its basis. According to Bapex and SGFL sources, the location of oil and gas (hydrocarbons) has been identified in five levels up to a depth of 2,100 meters or 6,790 feet in the Haripur field.[gasoline first used in cars]

Asked about the possibility of finding oil in the well, Badrul Imam, a prominent geologist, and professor of geology at Dhaka University told this correspondent that Sylhet (Haripur gas field is known as Sylhet gas field) and some of the surrounding Kailastila gas fields have oil levels. Oil has been found there before. Therefore, in the light of geological conditions and past experience, the possibility of getting oil from well No. 9 is not to be ruled out.
